Andrew Morgan, who was charged with behaving disorderly in a police station after a row with a policeman who shone a flashlight on his wife as she relieved herself, was reprimanded and fined $10,000 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Morgan was charged with using abusive language and disorderly conduct when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The charges read against Morgan were based on the allegations that on June 13, at Garnett Street, he made use of abusive language to Sergeant 18104 Grant, resulting in a breach of the peace; and that he behaved disorderly at the Kitty Police Station.
Morgan, who was represented amicus curiae by attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, pleaded guilty to both charges when they were read to him.
He told the court that he had parked at the side of the road because his wife wanted to urinate “as she could not hold it in anymore.”
He said after the policemen jumped out with the flashlight, he informed them that his wife was relieving herself and told them not to shine the light, but after they persisted, Morgan said that is how they “end up in a row.”
After hearing the case, the magistrate pronounced that the defendant was reprimanded and the matter relating to the abusive language was discharged, while he was fined $10,000 on the disorderly behaviour charge.
