A North Sophia woman was yesterday charged with assaulting a nine-year-old boy with whose family she has been reportedly feuding.
Felicity Benjamin, 44, of T85 North Sophia, was placed on $30,000 bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after denying the charge.
It is alleged that Benjamin, a mother of three, committed the common assault on May 14, at Chapel Street, Georgetown.
Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt said that the child was at a funeral service when Benjamin pushed him. Hunt reported to the court that the incident stemmed from an existing feud between the boy’s parents and the defendant’s family.
When asked, Benjamin told the court that she has a number of other matters before the court involving the complainant’s family.
The matter was called to the bench for a short while where the magistrate held further discussions with the parties in the presence of the prosecutor. The child, accompanied by his father was present at yesterday’s hearing.
Benjamin was subsequently informed that she would be admitted to $30,000 bail, to which the prosecution had no objections. She was also bonded to keep the peace, pending the determination of the matter.
The case continues on July 19 at Court Ten.
