The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has named 34 players to commence preparation with a view for possible selection for the Eighth annual Caribbean Pre-Cadet championships billed for August 10-15 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
According to a release from the GTTA, it had given its commitment to hosting the tournament in 2011.
The Pre-Cadet championships attracts players under 13 years of age
and is considered the nursery for the development of regional table tennis since its commencement.
According to the release the championships will provide the GTTA with the opportunity as host to showcase 32 of its Pre-Cadet players in the U13 and U11 categories.
The association’s plan is to use this tournament as a catalyst to jump start and market our national Cadet and Youth development programmes,†stated the release.
Teams from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Suriname and Barbados have confirmed their participation, the release added.
“The squad represents players who have been actively participating in tournaments organized by the GTTA and is drawn from schools predominantly with a table tennis programme,†stated the release adding that the team has already commenced training under coaches Linden Johnson, Idi Lewis, Lisa Lewis, Floyd Conway, Melissa Dow, Muniram Persaud and Godfrey Munroe.
The release stated that the GTTA plans to stage Trials in the boys 13 years and under and 11 years divisions to select the final eight players to represent Guyana.
The players shortlisted are:- 13 years and under boys Miguel Wong, Jeremy Singh, Khalil Ninvalle, Jordan Conway, Sandor Kanhai, Vincent Henry, Khalid Gobin, Joshua Norton, Jamaal Butts and Shamar Williams.
Girls: – Kristie Lopes, Priyanna Ramdhani, Simran Bissu, Davonna Bess, Brittney Bunbury and Annabelle DeFreitas.
Boys 11 years and under:- Tyriq Saunders, Terrence Rausch, Kaysan Ninvalle, Nyron Bissu, Yudister Persaud, Hemant Dalip, Ty Dickson, Brandon Jaikarran, Navendra Persaud, Isaiah Layne, Khalid Glasgow, Anfernee George and Sherwin Atherley.
Girls 11 years and under: – Salanas Jackman, Neveah Clarkston, Abigail Martin and Charlia Webb.
