Magistrate Fabayo Azore yesterday remanded mason Wayne Williams who is accused of threatening to burn his wife’s house down and break her neck after she locked him out of their home on Father’s Day.
The 40-year-old father of one of Lot 14 East La Penitence, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on June 15 at East La Penitence, Williams unlawfully and maliciously damaged windows valued $60, 000 and a quantity of kitchen utensils valued $30, 000, all totalling $90, 000, the property of Charmaine Williams.
Williams was also charged with making use of abusive language and threatening behaviour to the virtual complainant his wife, on June 16.
Prosecutor Renetta Bentham told the court that the defendant threatened to burn down his wife’s house and break her neck the day after the altercation which led to him damaging the windows.
The accused, after seeking the court’s permission to speak, said that on Father’s Day “meh wife was nagging, abusing me and rowing, so after I cleared up the yard, I left and went and drink with friends.
When I returned she locked me out and I pushed my hand through a crack in the window to open the door from inside and she hit my hand with a pot.”
“I tried to hit and open the door and that is how the windows broke”.
Williams who was unrepresented by counsel, said he never threatened his wife.
“She just lying on me. She said I got to go to jail,” he said.
The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that there is a high possibility that the defendant may carry out his threats.
The matter will be called again on June 26.
