Team Guyana (Back Circle) led by captain Wayne Wilson will depart these shore today to compete in the second staging of the Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge 2013 which will be held in St Vincent and the Grenadines from June 21 to 23.
Defeated 2-0 at home in the inaugural Caribbean edition by the Vincentians, Back Circle earned the right to represent Guyana while cementing their status as the best street football team in the country, following their exploits at the inaugural Guinness Greatest of the Streets National Championships held May 24-27.
Captain Wilson during an invited comment said: “We are going to win the tournament. It slipped through our hands the last time but we have already competed at this level and have the experience.
“The entire team is fit, focussed and ready to win. We have already failed once so we can’t fail twice. We are gonna go and play our heart and soul out to bring back the trophy,” said Wilson.
Vice captain Andy Duke also shared his thoughts stating: “Our mission is to come in first and only first. While we are confident, we don’t know if it’s a different set of players so we will be cautious and feel them out.
“Our goal is to bring the trophy back to where it belongs. We will try our best to give a good account of ourselves and not disappoint the country,” added Duke.
The team, which comprises seven players and two officials, will return on Monday 24.
The seven players are Wayne Wilson, Andy Duke, Daniel Favourite, Vincent Thomas, Devon Harris, Phillip Rowley and Seon McKenzie. Guinness Brand Manager Lee Baptiste and local referee Wayne ‘Harry’ Griffith are the travelling officials.
