The current rain weather had the final say in the scheduled commencement of the Guyana and Trinidad Mutuial Fire and Life Insurance Group of Companies/Guyana Cricket Board three day Inter County competition forcing the scheduled first day’s play to be abandoned yesterday.
The two scheduled matches between Essequibo and Demerara and the President’s XI versus Berbice were yesterday abandoned due to overnight showers which left the respective grounds waterlogged.
Over at the swamped out Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, officials were forced to call off play between Essequibo and Demerara after the majority of the outfield was filled with puddles of water while over at the Everest Sports Club ground, the President’s XI and Berbice prepared to engage in battle on a newly prepared pitch before officials overseeing their match deemed the outfield unfit for play.
Providing that good weather prevails today, the match will be reduced to two days and will commence at 9:30hrs at the same venues.
The Inter County tournament is being used by the GCB selection panel to shortlist the players for possible selection on the Guyana team to participate in the West Indies Cricket Board regional U19 tournament.
