Brian Sattaur’s unbeaten century gave Demerara first innings lead against Essequibo while Berbice’s performances with bat and ball left the President’s XI reeling as the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/GTM Under-19 Inter-County Three-Day Competition managed to get underway at the Police Sports Club and Everest Sports Club Grounds respectively yesterday.
The two matches were washed out on Friday forcing both games to be reduced to two-day affairs.
Winning the toss and electing to field, Demerara’s Shivram Persaud’s five wicket haul helped rout the opposition routing for a paltry 97.
Ricardo Peters (34) and Ricardo Adams (23) were the top scorers for Essequibo. Persaud’s destructive figures of 5 for 15 shattered the Essequibians dream.
In response, Demerara closed on 174 for 2, a lead of 77, with the classy Sattaur retiring hurt on 101 while Hamesh Yadram made 33.
Over at Everest ground, President’s XI won the toss and batted, a decision that didn’t pay off as they were bundled out for 85 in 32 overs.
Denesh Mongal top scored with 22 and was supported by Aviskar Sewkaran who made 17. Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai’s superb spell of 6 for 30 from 13 overs restricted the President’s XI.
In reply, Berbice lost five wickets in the process before rallying to 191 for 8 declared giving them a lead of 106.
Derick Narine held the innings together with 59 an innings which included one six and eight boundaries while Romario Shepherd and David Latchaya scored 25 and 19 respectively.
President’s XI Ryan Shun claimed 2 for 37.
In their second innings, President’s XI were 27 without loss from 11 overs. Openers Martin Bell and Shun were not out on 16 and 10 respectively.
