Joseph Chancellor, who is accused of breaking into the house of another man with intent to commit a felony, was yesterday released on $100,000 bail after denying the charge against him. Chancellor is accused of breaking and entering the dwelling house of Wendell Jeffrey with intent to commit a felony on June 22, at Georgetown.
The 530 ‘B’ Field, Turkeyen resident denied the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Vernette Pindar said that the complainant encountered Chancellor in his house. But when given a chance to speak, the unrepresented Chancellor said that he never entered the house. He insisted that at all times he remained standing outside at the bottom of the stairs. He added that he did not steal anything, nor was he found with any stolen item.
Chancellor told the court he went to the complainant’s home to drop off some money for his cousin, who has to undergo a heart surgery. The magistrate subsequently granted Chancellor the bail release and ordered him to return to court on July 19 for statements.
