Ryan Henry, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) employee, who was burned while working on a utility pole at Parika last Tuesday, had another part of his left hand amputated on Sunday evening.
Henry is said to be in a stable condition at the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the institution hospital, sources said yesterday. On Friday evening, a part of his hand was amputated. Henry’s mother had told Stabroek News that her son would be greatly affected if his hand were amputated because he was a very active person.
The Bent Street, Wortmanville, resident was also burnt to his face and chest while he was working on the GPL pole. His co-worker, Vague Trotman, fractured a limb in the ordeal after he jumped off the ladder, leading up to the pole, when he saw what had happened to Henry, sources had told this newspaper.
This incident comes just a few months after another linesman sustained severe electrical burns after being struck by a live wire on the job. Seon Scott called ‘Ganja’, 19, of Limlair Village, Corentyne, Berbice sustained the burns while working at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice.
