The policeman who allegedly hit down and killed an elderly man on Sunday was yesterday charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and released on $10,000 bail.
According to a police press release issued yesterday, Police Cadet Officer James Tappin appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Tappin was involved in a fatal accident that occurred on the Better Hope Public Road, in which Canerjit Sanichar of Better Hope lost his life.
Seventy-one-year-old Sanichar, a great grandfather, was attempting to cross the road when he was struck down around 4.20 hrs.
