Several organisations and individuals were yesterday presented with awards by the Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD) as part of the tenth anniversary celebration of the organisation.At the award ceremony, which was held at Moray House, Quamina Street, human rights lawyer Gino Persaud and Roman Catholic Bishop Francis Alleyne received their honours under the categories Human Rights and Faith respectively. Stabroek News earned an award for journalism, and its reporter Johann Earle, for excellence in reporting on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) issues in Guyana.Other media entities awarded were HBTV’s First Look News and Demerara Waves. In Civil Society category, social activism group Red Thread was honoured, while Head of the Radio Serial Drama Merundoi Margaret Lawrence was awarded as a civil society ally.The Sidewalk Café and Jazz Club was the private sector entity awarded and Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Clinton Urling was honoured for being a private sector ally.In photo: Zenita Nicholson of SASOD (right) presents an award to a representative of Red Thread.
