The policeman believed to have accidentally shot a colleague at the armoury of the Tactical Services Unit, at Eve Leary is being held under “open arrest,” according to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud.
Persaud told Stabroek News that the investigation of the shooting is still being conducted. He added that the injured rank, Constable Christopher Albert, remains hospitalised. The rank being held responsible for the shooting was initially held under “close arrest,” where he was isolated.
He is now being held under supervision. According to reports, Albert, 20, sustained a single gunshot wound to the lower abdomen last week Sunday.
The bullet was fired from the .38 revolver of his colleague, who was at the time loading the weapon with rounds. The men were about to go on duty from 7am that day. The wounded Albert was immediately rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is in a stable state.
