Thirty persons have been trained as peer educators on gender-based violence by the Guyana Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBCHA).
A release from the GBCHA said that the 30 peer educators came from Banks DIH Ltd, Cara Lodge, Scotiabank, Guyana Lottery Company Limited, Edward B. Beharry & Company Ltd, Hand-in-Hand Group of Companies, Guyana Revenue Authority, National Milling Company of Guyana, Pegasus Hotel Guyana, Guyana Forestry Commission, the Guyana National Shipping Corporation Ltd and Sterling Products Limited.
Membership Services Officer and Facilitator, Schemel Patrick was reported in the release as saying that gender-based violence is one of the most prevalent social problems and that “both men and women alike are unaware of healthy alternatives to abuse in order to prevent the cycle of violence”.
The training was funded by a grant by USAID.
