Magistrate Roby Benn fined an Angoy’s Avenue mason $5,000 and sentenced him to 40 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to having two grammes of cannabis in his possession to treat his head injury.
David Williams, 27, called ‘Dewfish’ of 67 Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics when he appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
“I had the weed to use for my head injuries,” Williams said. “I am just guilty of the act I don’t want to lie to the court, the officers always harassing me,” the defendant added.
Police Prosecutor Philip Sherriff told the court that on Friday June 21, police on patrol duty conducted a search on Williams and found the narcotic in his left pants pocket. The magistrate imposed the fine and sentence and informed Williams that should he fail to pay the fine or complete his community service he will be imprisoned for one year.
During the performance of community service a court clerk will supervise the accused.
