New Silvercity Secondary in their final preliminary game defeated Mackenzie High School by a 63-41 margin as action in the Linden Secondary Schools U19 Basketball Championships continued at the Mackenzie Hard-court on Tuesday.
Even with the victory, New Silvercity, however failed to qualify for the knockout stages due to their earlier preliminary loss to Linden Technical Institute (LTI) by a 29-25 score line.
Both teams finished the preliminary round on identical points but LTI advanced due to the head-to-head rule.
In their final preliminary encounter, unbeaten Wismar/Christianburg Secondary trounced New Silvercity Secondary by a 61-36 score line on Monday at the Mackenzie Hard-court. Terron Welch led Wismar/Christianburg with a game-high 20 points.
The semi-final rounds will commence today (Thursday) at the same venue from 2:30pm as top ranked Wismar/Christianburg will face fourth seed and defending champions LTI.
In the second semi final, second seed Wisburg Secondary will face off with third seed Linden Foundation Secondary (LFS) at 4:00pm.
The grand final and third place encounters will be played at the same locale on Monday.
Several trophies and replicas are at stake in this championship which has attracted sponsors from overseas and at home. These sponsors include Linden Alphonso, Maxie Stephens, Two Brothers Gas Station and the Haynes Foundation.
