Dolphin Secondary through a Shamar Wilson strike in the 56th minute defeated tournament powerhouse South Ruimveldt Secondary 1-0 as action in the Digicel/Powerade National U-18 Football Tournament continued at the Campbellville Community Centre Ground yesterday.
Locked at nil-all, Wilson would pounce on a poorly defended cross from the left flank by Lavar Baptiste to stab home his right-foot strike to the bottom left hand side of the goal to complete the first major upset of the tournament. In a post-match comment, Wilson stated “It was a tough game but we came out with the victory”.
Over at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, Marian Academy led by a five-goal haul by Akeem Bynoe in the eighth, 17th, 35th, 55th and 90th minutes hammered Central High School 7-1.
Siblings Damani and Diarra Thomas recorded goals in the 23rd and 65th minutes respectively. Central High recorded their only success of the encounter through a Rishawn Charles 20th minute effort.
At the Eve Leary ground, Chase Academy through a Stephen Sankar five-goal haul in the 15th, 19th, 21st, 31st and 50th minutes hammered The Business School 8-1. Carl Semple, Rayan Watson and David Britton scored in the 37th, 35th and 68th minutes respectively for the victors.
Lee Peters was on target for the Business School in the 39th minute.
L’Aventure Secondary through a Kevin Richards helmet trick in the 31st, 37th, 66th and 87th minutes edged Zeeburg Secondary in an eleven-goal thriller 6-5 at the Den Amstel Ground, West Demerara.
Leon David was on target in the 15th minute while a Zeeburg Secondary own-goal in the 73rd minute sealed the win for L’Aventure side.
Paul McPherson recorded a hat trick in a losing cause in the 45th, 81st and 85th minutes while Steffon Harton and Carlos Caesar registered goals in the 29th and 58th minutes respectively. A Kevron Durant five-goal burst in the second, 11th, 28th, 51st and 74th minutes powered Bladen Hall Secondary to an 11-0 thumping of LBI Secondary at the Beterverwagting ground, East Coast Demerara.
Denzel Junior recorded a double in the 22nd and 41st minutes while solitary strikes by Tyrone Harper, Orin Scotland, Marcus Havercome and Kevin Trotman in the 26th, 59th, 76th and 82nd minutes completed the lopsided encounter.
A Keyon McKenzie double hat trick in the 14th, 27th, 33rd, 75th, 77th and 80th minutes powered Berbice High School to 16-0 thumping of Skeldon Line Path Secondary at the All Saints, ground in New Amsterdam.
Shimron Hetemyer ninth, 19th and 23rd, Jeremy Samuels 40th, 49th and 79th, Stephon Hinds 17th, and 36th and Mark Wrong 58th and 91st minutes respectively contributed in the one-sided affair.
