Commercial Manager of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League Jamie Stewart yesterday praised the government for their assistance for the inaugural tournament which gets underway next month.
According to Stewart he was grateful for the help the government has been providing, labeling their actions as “proactive”, actions which he said he hopes will continue.

Stewart made the remarks at a press briefing yesterday at Duke Lodge, Kingston attended by executives of the local franchise including Head Coach, Roger Harper, Events Operation Limacol CPL Guyana, Alex Graham and members of the local Amazon Warriors franchise which included Ramnaresh Sarwan, Christopher Barnwell and Trevon Griffith.
Stewart, responding to the question asked about the preparation of the tournament, he said “It’s a huge undertaking,” adding that he hopes the support continues as the tournament progresses.
Harper stated that the team will be encamped from July 22 in a bid to get the local players in shape for the tournament. He also explained that some of the international players might still be obligated to fulfilling their international commitments so it will be essential for the local players to prepare themselves early.
Harper also mentioned the hurdle that is proving a bit challenging, is the weather which he hopes improves so the players can have some outdoor play.
He hinted though that they will meanwhile utilize the convenience of the indoor facility, located on the East Coast of Demerara.
It was also stated that access for tickets will be “broader”, and will be sold through local furniture and telecommunication giants COURTS and Digicel, respectively, which will make acquiring the tickets much easier.
Harper, speaking on the aspects of captaincy in the team said no announcement has yet been made on the nominees, but one will be “in the near future.”
It was also disclosed that on the issue of the state of the playing venue, the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, the organizers will be using persons with considerable experience in ground preparations.
Stewart said that next year’s CPL winning team will represent the Caribbean in the Champions League T20 tournament.
He also pointed out that due to the spot-fixing saga that has affected the Indian Premier League (IPL) recently, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will be putting measure in place to ensure that the CPL and its players does not fall under that scrutiny.
The competition begins on July 31st and will include six teams from across the Caribbean which include; Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.
