Habitat for Humanity Guyana held its annual housing quality standards training for contractors aimed at ensuring that they are knowledgeable about the charity’s building process as outlined by Habitat for Humanity International.
According to a press release from the organisation, some of the housing quality standards discussed are location – contractors must avoid building in hazardous, disease prone or vector infected areas; as far as possible materials must be sourced locally; secure tenure – there should be no threat of future eviction; and drainage – the environment must be one in which health and other risks posed by water erosion and standing water are minimised. Discussions were also held about durability, water quality and quantity, washroom access and space.
