Defending Georgetown champions Lodge Secondary, through a brace by their captain Jarel Grannum, hammered Queenstown Secondary 6-1 as action in the Digicel National U18 Secondary Schools Football Championships continued at the Campbellville Community Centre ground on Monday.
Grannum would open the scoring for his side through a 13th minute strike. He would complete his brace in sublime fashion with a 67th minute strike.
Receiving the ball in the final third of the Queenstown side, Grannum would orchestrate a beautifully played one-two combination with fellow midfielder Orlando Gravesande just before unleashing a powerful strike to the top left hand side of the goal from 22 yards away.
Further goals by Shemar Smith, Gravesande, Stephon Mclean and Ryan Hackett in the 55th, 71st, 77th and 87th minutes would complete the rout. Queenstown, however, was able to penetrate the Lodge backline through an Ijahfar John 55th minute effort from a goal mouth scramble.
In the earlier encounter, Houston Secondary, led by an Andell Flue hat trick in the 11th, 71st and 75th minutes crushed Ascension Secondary 8-3.
On target for the victors was Akasi Jervis who contributed a double in the 40th and 48th minute while Kemo Jobe, Jermain Scott and Kevin Douglas netted solitary strikes in the 50th, 66th and73rd minutes respectively.
Registering their name on the scorer’s sheet for the East Ruimveldt side was Joshua Ramotar in the 28th and 69th minutes and Shaka Graham in the eight minute.
Over at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue, another major tournament upset occurred as tournament heavyweights St. George’s High were defeated by North Georgetown Secondary 1-0. Keon Douglas was on target for the victors in the 37th minute.
