KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- India’s campaign in the Celkon Mobile Cup suffered a major blow yesterday after Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was forced to withdraw from the team due to a hamstring injury.
Dhoni has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing tri-nation ODI series a day after his team lost to West Indies by one-wicket in their opening match at Sabina Park.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said Batsman Ambati Rayudu is being flown in as Dhoni’s replacement. “Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been ruled out of the ongoing tri-series in the West Indies, due to a hamstring injury,” BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel said in a statement.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked Ambati Rayudu as his replacement in the squad. Rayudu will join the team at the earliest”.
Dhoni scored 27 off 35 balls before he was cleaned up by a Tino Best inswinger after battling cramps that hampered his running between the wickets. Virat Kohli will lead India in the remainder of the tri-series which continue today with India playing Sri Lanka.
