The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) on Friday last provided sponsorship to Berbice cricketer and U15 selectee Sylus Tyndall and young karateka Xavier Henry as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
According to a press release, the RHTYSC said it strongly believes that all youths must have equal opportunities despite their less fortunate backgrounds.
Tyndall received a donation of cricket gear from the Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division and Gismos & Gadgets Under-21 and First Division and the Metro Female Teams ahead of his representing Guyana at the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) U15 tournament in Jamaica from July 10-26.
The teams also made a financial donation to eight-year-old Henry of the New Amsterdam Karate Club which will enable him to travel to Georgetown to do his Karate exams.
Donations of cricket trophies were also made to the Belvedere Primary School and the Hephziban Ministries Church for upcoming events. The Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary School also received a collection of gifts for a fundraising event.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, at the presentation ceremony at the club’s Area “H” Ground stated that it was with pleasure that the club was assisting others as the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club was blessed to receive from donors as well.
Foster stated that Sports “Is a proven alternative to youths from a life of crime and drugs and no youth should be denied an opportunity to fulfill his/her sporting potential due to lack of resources”.
He exhorted the youths to always be disciplined saying that it was the foundation on which success was built and also wished them success in their pursuits.
Foster also issued a challenge to other sport clubs especially those in cricket to get involved in making positive differences in the lives of less fortunate youths, including those who are not members of their clubs.
A clearly delighted Tyndall who plays for the Big Star Cricket Club from Ulverston Village, expressed gratitude to the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club for the donation which included a bat, helmet, batting pads, bowling boots, cricket bag and personal hygiene kits. He stated that he was happy that a club of which he is not a member assisted him as he was very excited to represent his country and hopefully one day represent the West Indies like his idol Curtly Ambrose.
