Milerock heads the standings with four points from two matches in Group B of the Canvas City Vasco Under Nineteen Football competition.
After pummelling Winners Football Club by 9 goals to nil in a lacklustre game last week Tuesday that was poor in every aspect, except some excellent finishing by Milerock’s goal scorers, Milerock allowed Botofago FC to scramble to a face-saving one-all draw on Sunday through a penalty seventeen minutes into the second half.
However, there was not much difference in the overall quality of technique and tactics in the two matches except that the Milerock – Botofago encounter was more physically competitive with the former inflicting more fouls on Botofago, which became Milerock’s when Botofago’s captain and main striker was brought down in the penalty area.
Mark Hope made no mistake in placing his penalty shot far out of reach to the left of Milerock’s goal keeper, Darius Frank. Earlier, Benaken Smartte had put Milerock ahead in the eighteenth minute with a gripping right foot shot from just outside the centre of the eighteen yard box.
Apart from heading the points table, Milerock is ahead on goal average with ten goals for and one against. Blueberry Hill is in second position in Group B with three points from one game. They are followed by Botofago with one point from one game while Top XX and Winners are yet to score a point.
Three teams – Silver Shatters, Eagles and Net Rockers – are tied on three points in Group A but Eagles have played two matches to the others’ one. Vasco and Amelia’s Ward are still to score a point, having lost their only encounter so far.
Contrary to earlier announcements, all matches in the competition are being played at the Bayrock Ground. (Jeff Trotman)
