Mason Joel Jack, who is alleged to have stolen a BlackBerry cellphone was yesterday remanded to prison when the matter was heard by Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The 22-year-old Bachelor’s Adventure resident denied the charge against him which read that on July 3 at Commerce Street, he stole one BlackBerry Curve and a USB charger valued $38,000, property of Zulfikar Kadir.
No facts of what occurred on the day in question were related to the court.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, in his objection to bail, said if the defendant was granted his pre-trial liberty, he feared he may not return to court.
Also, he said, the item had been found on the defendant’s person and that considering the seriousness of the offence, his objection to bail was substantiated.
“Ah didn’t steal no phone,” the unrepresented Jack pleaded after beseeching the court’s permission to speak.
The magistrate remanded Jack to prison and transferred the matter to court 10 for July 15.
