President’s College (PC) defeated the University of Guyana (UG) by a 42-28 score line in their U-20 encounter as action in the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF) continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Mandela Avenue on Wednesday.
Nyambekerie Bacchus led the PC side with 14 points and seven rebounds. He was assisted by Jafar Gibbons who netted 10 points and collected six rebounds and four steals.
Leading UG’s team was Fonsoe James who registered 10 points and 13 rebounds.
In the final U-20 matchup of the evening, the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) led by Emmanuel Archibald’s all-round effort of 16 points, seven rebounds and seven steals overcame JC Chandisingh Secondary 30-25. Rayborne Murray led GSA with 11 points.
In the U-17 division, Kwakwani Secondary edged St. Rose’s High by a 41-34 score line in their fixture. Kevin Gordon and Dillon Wallace led the Kwakwani side with 11 and nine points respectively.
Shamar Huntley had an all-round game for St. Rose’s with 15 points, eight rebounds and five steals. He was supported by Afernee Jervis who added 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Continuing in the U-17 division, Bishops’ High through Daniel Haynes’ dominating display of 24 points, seven rebounds and two steals blew out Brickdam Secondary by an 82-16 margin.
Marvin Durant contributed 15 points, seven steals and eight rebounds in the win. Joshua Lee was Brickdam Secondary’s primary scorer with 13 points.
Neil Wills scored 14 points and registered nine rebounds to pilot New Amsterdam Multilateral School to a 44-12 pummelling of Plaisance Secondary in their U-17 face-off. Malcolm Powler scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds for the East Coast side.
In the final U-17 match, Marian Academy propelled by Judah Stephney’s effort of 13 points, six rebounds and eight steals defeated President’s College 38-25. Jaleel Duke led the Golden Grove side with 12 points, seven rebounds and eight steals.
