The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) in collaboration with Trinidad Cement Limited (Guyana) TCL Group of Companies, is launching its 16th Annual Cricket Academy on Monday.
A total of 120 young cricketers aged 8 to 18 years are set to participate in the two-week-long programme which starts at 9am at the Area “H” Ground, Rose Hall Town, Berbice. The Club will also be hosting the 6th Annual Republic Bank Summer Camp for 6th Grade students and the first ever Mathematics Summer Camp for students about to enter secondary school from Monday. Plans for all three summer programmes have been completed according to RHTYSC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster.
The academy will be conducted by coaches Michael Hyles-Franco, Winston Smith and Renwick Batson who will be focusing on developing the abilities of young cricketers while at the same time making sure that they understood their responsibility as role models and sport ambassadors. At the close of the academy, the RHTYSC hopes to short-list 40 promising cricketers for further coaching and personal development programmes.
The Republic Bank Summer Camp is exclusively designed for 60 Grade Six students preparing for secondary school, over a five-week period. Students would be taught five subjects: Mathematics, Spanish, English A, English B and Integrated Science and would also receive special coaching to improve their cricketing skills. They will also attend lectures on topical issues such as drug abuse, peer pressure, the importance of education and public speaking. The Mathematics Camp would he held three days per week from July 8 to August 9 targeting students from Forms 3 and 4.
The RHTYSC encourages youths in Berbice to take advantage of the programmes. Admission to all the programmes is free.
