LOUIS D’OR, Tobago, CMC- A four wicket haul from Carl Vialva gave Trinidad and Tobago the edge and allowed them to pull off a narrow eight run win over Windward Islands in the Regional under 17 tournament on Wednesday.
Vialva grabbed four wickets for 48 runs to shift the momentum in Trinidad’s favour after the home side had posted 215 for nine in 50 overs.
The Trinidadians struggled to put partnerships together throughout the innings after winning the toss and deciding to bat.
Jyd Goolie was the only real mainstay of the innings, hitting an aggressive 61 that contained 6 fours and three sixes while Anderson Phillip, towards the end of the innings, scored 20 from 17 balls, hitting a six and a four.
Kershaski Jnolewis picked up three for 45 while Daryl Cyrus grabbed two for 31.
Pope and Charlery put on 102 runs for the second wicket to lead the Windwards’ response after they lost Kyle Cabey early. However, after a short rain break, Vialva began taking wickets to help T&T regain control as the Windwards slowly crumbled.
Jnolewis tried to make a last push for victory with 21 runs from 24 balls, but T&T scraped by in a game they had largely spent all day chasing.
