SHAW PARK, Tobago, CMC- Barbados defeated the Windward Islands by 45 runs to continue their unbeaten run in the Regional Under 17 tournament which entered its third round on Thursday.
Shemar Springer starred with bat and ball as the Bajans piled on 225 all out and falling a ball short of completing their 50 over allotment.
Springer top scored for his team with 53 that included seven boundaries in his unbeaten 45-ball knock, then later picked up two wickets, while Akiel Greenidge provided support with a well played 46.
Daryl Cyrus was the Windwards’ best bowler, finishing with four wickets for 38 runs.
The Windwards’ chase got off to a solid start as the opening pair put on 58 runs for the first wicket.
However when Kyle Cabey was run out for 38 and Chad Charles was removed on 37, the Bajans began to take control.
Wickets fell consistently although Ryan John played well for his 46, hitting one four and one six.
However, his efforts weren’t enough as the Windwards were all out for 180 in 46.3 overs with Deswin Currency finishing as the top bowler for Barbados with four for 26.
