A gritty Nikkoloi Smith performance powered Plaisance Secondary to a 51-47 upset victory over the highly favoured Christianburg/Wismar Secondary as action in the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF) continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue on Thursday.
Smith registered 23 points and seven rebounds in the win. He received support from Kelvin Yorrick and Kendo Bowen who netted 10 and nine points respectively.
Leading the offence for the Linden unit was Travin Dryden who netted 14 points and collected 10 rebounds and Aferny Diolly who score 14 points.
In the Final U20 fixture, Taquan Vieira scored 13 points and collected four rebounds as Marian Academy overcame President’s College by a 37-31 score line. Nyambekerie Bacchus registered a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.
New Amsterdam Multilateral School hammered Marian Academy 30-11 in their U-17 match-up. Neil Wills dominated the Marian side as he registered 17 points and 14 rebounds. Continuing in the U17 division, Kwakwani Secondary led by Kerron Phillips with 13 points and six rebounds and Domir Gladstone with 11 points and six rebounds pummelled Brickdam Secondary 56-15.
President’s College crushed Plaisance Secondary 54-21 in their U17 fixture. Jaleel Duke netted 16 points and collected six rebounds in the win. Malcolm Powler scored seven points and picked up six rebounds in a losing effort.
In the final U17 game, St. Rose’s powered by Nathan Howell’s 11 points tally edged out Bishops’ High 32-29. Marvin Durant registered a game high of 12 points for the losing Carmichael Street unit.
