A 31-year-old mason was last evening pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) after he was shot in the vicinity of the Vryheid’s Lust seawall, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police say that Tyrone Boodhoo of Mon Repos and a female friend, 23-year-old Martha Mohammed, were at the seawalls in the vicinity of Vryheid’s Lust, ECD, when they were confronted by two men.
The men reportedly ordered Boodhoo and Mohammed to lie on the ground.
According to police it was at this stage that Boodhoo opted to escape and was fatally shot.
After shooting Boodhoo, the men made good their case, but not before taking Mohammed’s cell phone.
Boodhoo was subsequently rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA).
Mohammed was taken to the Sparendaam Police Station where up to press time she was being questioned.
It was there that the story took a twist when Boodhoo’s mother and pregnant wife turned up on hearing the news.
The young woman, who asked not to be named, told Stabroek News, that she was at home when she received a phone call to visit the station as her husband had been shot.
She only learnt that he was dead when she arrived and began weeping inconsolably.
The 25-year-old woman described the father of her seven-year-old son as hardworking and began lamenting about how she was going to cope with his death.
Police are continuing their investigations.
