State prosecutor Renita Singh yesterday closed the case in the Marlon Ganesh murder trial which began on Thursday in the High Court before Justice Dawn Gregory.
Singh closed her case after she called Ganesh’s ex-wife Babloo Singh, daughter of the deceased Roopnarine Singh to testify.
Singh was an eyewitness to the incident which resulted in the death of her father.
Ganesh, who is represented by attorney Hukumchand, is on trial for the December 2008 murder of Singh—who was his father in-law—at Sophia. He allegedly stabbed Singh to death after Singh accused him of stealing fried chicken. According to Ganesh’s statement to police, which was admitted as evidence, he and Singh had an argument after Singh accused him of stealing fried chicken and told him he had to move out of the home.
He had said he went into the house to get his clothes and while he was packing Singh attacked him. He claimed he tried to defend himself with a “lil knife” which he used to stab Singh.
Ganesh also said he “fire juk” at Singh and was attacked by other persons. He, however, managed to escape and went into the interior and upon his return he heard Singh had died. Singh succumbed to his injuries in January the next year. The case will continue today.
