The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) has earmarked three Simon Pures to represent the nation at the South America Championships in Peru this September.
According to president of GBA, Steve Ninvalle, Tefon Green (Harpy Eagles Gym), and two Berbicians, Joel Williamson (Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym) and Travis Fraser (Tiger Eye) will be tasked with medalling at the Championships.
Ninvalle also disclosed yesterday, that systems will be put in place for the three pugilists to encamp at the Andrew ‘SixHead’ Lewis Gym in the not too distant future.
Green will do battle in the junior flyweight division, while Williamson will take on flyweights. Fraser, will match gloves with his welterweight foes.
National Boxing Coach, Wincel Thomas and Vice President of GBA, Eustace Cuffy will accompany the boxers on their sojourn. Cuffy will act as team manager.
The GBA head also told Stabroek Sport that the two-day Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Under-16 Competition will box off on July 27 while the National Open Championships will be staged in August.
The National Open Competition will serve as a yardstick for selecting a team for the World Championships slated for Kazakhstan in October.
Meanwhile, Cuban Coach, Francisco Hernandez Roldan will be conducting monthly two-day seminars for Coaches and beginners starting from Saturday, July 20 at the Andrew Lewis Gym.
Saturday’s seminars will commence at 10:00hrs and conclude at 14:00hrs while the seminars on Sundays will begin at midday and end four hours later.
