Ravindra Siew, accused of killing his mother Ramrattie Deonauth, was yesterday freed by Justice Navindra Singh in the High Court after a no-case submission was upheld in his favour.
Justice Singh set Siew free after his attorney Haymant Ramdhani made a no-case submission on his behalf when state counsel Tishana Lake closed her case.
After listening to the grounds of the defence’s submission, Justice Singh upheld theapplication and proceeded to ask the jury to return a formal verdict of not guilty.
Siew spent almost four years in jail after he was charged with killing Deonauth, between July 19 and 20, 2009 at Enterprise, East Coast Demerara.
The trial had commenced on Monday and Lake had presented three witnesses in the case. All of the witnesses were cross-examined by Ramdhani.
