A teenager arraigned on charges of break-and-enter-and-larceny and burglary was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Kerry Dick is that on November 28, 2012 he broke and entered the dwelling of Medas Bentham and stole therein $125,000.
It is also alleged that during the night of November 28, 2011 Dick broke and entered the dwelling of Felisha Goodluck and stole therein one DVD player valued $25,000.
The unrepresented 17-year-old was not required to plead to the indictable charges when they were read to him.
The teen gave his address as 15A Pike Street, Sophia. When asked by the court, Dick said that he is a miner but is not stationed at any particular location in the interior.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to the defendant being granted his pretrial liberty stating that he poses a risk of flight.
The prosecution argued that Dick has “no ties to the community” and contended that since he works at no specific location in the interior, it would be difficult for the police to find him if need be.
Jones indicated to the court also that both the young man’s parents are dead.
Dick was informed that he would be remanded to prison. The matter continues on July 23.
