The five players selected by the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) for the Guyana Under-15 team were scheduled to depart early this morning to participate in the Regional Under-15 tournament in Jamaica.
DCC president Alfred Mentore accompanied by club officials, members and sponsors announced that Raymond Perez, Sagar Hetheramani, Ashmead Nedd, Timothy McAlmont and Mark Williams were selected to the team at a simple ceremony held at the DCC sports club yesterday.
Mentore charged the youngsters to focus on each game as they participate in the tournament which concludes on July 26. He also said he was pleased that the club was able to produce quality players who were selected at the national level.
The DCC president also told the players that they had “big shoes” to fill and reminded them of the legacies of Lance Gibbs, Roger Harper and the success of current players such as Christopher Barnwell and Trevon Griffith. Mentore also urged the players to listen and learn from each other and their teammates and encouraged them to cooperate as a playing unit.
In an invited comment, national under-17 Coach Garvin Nedd was overjoyed that his young players including his son Ashmead were selected to represent Guyana. He said that he worked hard with his son and the other players and encouraged off spinner Hetheramani to keep “bowling well. “ He them wished them success in the tournament.
Sponsors including Hits and Jams Entertainment, Bish Panday, Roger Harper, former West Indies player Travis Dowlin and Mentore donated cricket gear to the players.
The Guyana Under-15 team comprises Bhaskar Yadram (Captain), Ronaldo Mohamed (vice-captain), Adrian Sukhwah (wicketkeeper), Raymond Perez, Darshan Persaud, Richie Lucknauth, Timothy McAlmont, Mark Williams, Sagar Hetheramani, Ashmead Nedd, Matthew Hardial, Vickram Talmakund, Christopher Latchman and Sylus Tyndall.
