The national under-19 ruggers were booted out of the North America Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) 15s tournament following a 34-nil drubbing by the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) on Tuesday at the Fatima Ground in Mucurapo, Trinidad.
Fly half Luis Turby-Field opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a penalty which was followed shortly afterwards by tries from hooker, Scott Glinton and No 8 Franco Monpremier, both duly converted by Turby-Field, to give TCI a 17-0 half time lead.
TCI maintained the pressure in the second half and scored 3 more tries, one each for De-Angelo Ferguson, Kristoff Malcolm and Lincoln Oulen with Turby-Filed adding the conversion. In the second match on Tuesday, the TTRFU Presidents Selects heavily outplayed St Lucia and ran away with the game, 70-0. Standout centre Cathal Long scored a hat-trick of tries, with further tries from Akesh Beji, Caleb Hector, Sherron Edwards, Eon Thomas, Jordon Rodriguez (two), Leon Pantor (two) and Jamie Aslack, with Pantor kicking five conversions.
Turks & Caicos will now play St Lucia in the deciding match of the tournament to determine the top national team of the Trophy division.
The Turks need only a draw or victory tomorrow to clinch the top spot, out of the 3 Caribbean national teams. Guyana will also play a friendly match against the TT Presidents Selects tomorrow. The locals failed to replicate last Sunday’s 29-10 win over St Lucia and will return home this Sunday.
