Man told brother, ‘if you kill me, I gon kill you too’ – court hears

Two brothers who threatened to kill each other yesterday exchanged apologies and were bonded to keep the peace.

Gregory Beresford, 38, and Devon Armstrong, 24, both requested to have the matter dismissed, telling Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court the issue was “senseless” and there was no need for their case to go further.

Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that on July 6, at their Lot C 11 Guyhoc, East Ruimveldt home, Armstrong had threatened to shoot Beresford, who then said “if you kill me, I gon kill you too.”

Mangru said both brothers subsequently reported the threats.

Armstrong apologised for what he called a “misunderstanding” and Beresford, sharing the same sentiment, explained that the incident had been “a senseless argument over water and a drum.”

Reprimanding the men, the magistrate warned that they “should be constructive before they find themselves in a serious state… a threat to kill is a serious threat.”

She informed them that under such circumstances, imprisonment is usually the best option. The magistrate, however, announced that the case had been dismissed in light of their not offering evidence against each other.
