A Bartica businessman accidentally shot himself in the buttocks after he had already discharged a round that hit an eighteen-year-old girl in the foot at a popular Bartica bar on Friday night.
Tyrone Lewis, 23, of, Bartica, is now a patient of the Bartica Hospital along with Kes..hanna Barnes, of Farm, East Bank Essequibo, who was injured in her right foot.
Police said in a release that about 22:45 hrs on Friday, Lewis who is a licensed firearm holder, was at a night spot at Bartica when he accidentally discharged a round which struck Barnes in the foot.
He was then confronted by a male patron about the incident during which time he was reported to have made efforts to pull out the firearm a second time.
It was at his point that he accidentally shot himself in his buttocks the release stated. The firearm has since been seized by the police.
A source told this newspaper that Lewis was at the bar when he got into an altercation with someone. He then pulled out his gun and fired a shot at the individual.
A fight subsequently broke out between the two and Lewis made a second attempt to pull his gun but ended up shooting himself.
