Leslie Wood, the taxi driver who was shot multiple times and left for dead last week, was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation yesterday.
Stabroek News was told that the two bullets he took on July 5 during a drive-by shooting on Cummings Street, Alberttown were still lodged in his body.
This newspaper was told that the one bullet was close to his heart and as a result doctors wouldn’t be “troubling” it. A family member noted that the other bullet injury to Wood’s head was still “oozing” but that doctors discharged the man none the less.
Up to Friday, Wood was noted as being in a delirious state and as a result police were unable to question him and obtain new information regarding the events that led up to the shooting. Stabroek News was told previously by Crime Chief, Seelall Persaud, that police were unable to get much information from Wood pertaining to a motive.
Woods was found lying in a pool of his own blood on Cummings Street by an Alberttown resident after the same resident heard gunshots and came out to see what had happened.
This newspaper was told that based on reports, the man had jumped a fence before a car with the shooter/s came speeding up. There have been conflicting reports which suggest that Wood’s had been in an altercation with customers who refused to pay for his services as a taxi and they later called another man who drove up and shot Wood.
A police van later drove up and according to the resident the police “just drive up put the man in the van and drive off.” The resident said that police ranks returned around 6 pm and cordoned off that section of the street to begin their investigations.
No arrests have been made.
