Two gunmen, who posed as customers, carted off close to one million dollars after they carried out a brazen attack on Fullworks Motor Spares and Auto Sales at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara yesterday.
The bandits carried out the attack shortly after 2 pm while employees and customers were in the building. Employee Ravi Ali told Stabroek News that he, a customer and the cashier were confronted by the bandits as the other persons in the building sought cover.
This is the eighth time the business place has been robbed, employees noted, with the last attack before yesterday being earlier in the year.
Minutes before the attack, the men went into the building and inquired about the price of a car part, Ali stated. He said he told them the cost of the part and the men made an attempt to exit the building but suddenly turned around and pointed two guns at them.
The bandits then ordered them to lie on the ground and then went into the cashier’s booth, where they placed a gun to the cashier’s head.
The drawers containing the cash were then emptied by the thieves, who made good their escape in a waiting car.
According to Ali, he ran behind the men and saw when they left in the car, which was parked a few blocks away from the building.
This latest attack seems to be the work of a particular group of thieves that strike on businesses in the afternoon under the pretence of being customers.
On Monday afternoon, two gunmen robbed the mini-mart of Rubis Gas and Service Station on Vlissengen Road and Eping Avenue, after they entered the establishment pretending to be customers.
On the same day, Akbar Auto Sales and Furniture Store on North Road was also robbed by two gunmen who walked into the building pretending to be customers.
