A teacher accused of assaulting his student and using abusive language towards her was on Tuesday bonded to be on good behaviour after the charges were dismissed because the girl no longer wanted to offer evidence against him.
The extent of the harm or injury 17-year-old Ashanna Griffith suffered at the hands of the defendant, Alucko Jarvis, was not made known when the case was heard in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Jarvis, represented by attorney Latchmie Rahamat, denied the charges when they were read to him by Magistrate Faith McGusty. It was alleged that on July 12 at Manget Place he unlawfully assaulted Griffith, so as to cause her actual bodily harm. It was also alleged that he used abusive language towards her on the same day.
No details of what had occurred on the day in question were related to the court by Prosecutor Collin Primus.
After the complainant indicated she no longer wished to proceed with the matter, the magistrate ordered her to pay $2,000 in court costs and bonded the defendant to keep the peace and be on good behaviour for six months.
