Detective Corporal attends financial investigation course

The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that a number of police officers have been participating in training programmes overseas including on the topic of financial investigation.

In a press release the ministry said the training started since June and is being held in the Region.

Currently, Deputy Superintendent Fazil Karimbaksh, Assistant Superintendent Simon Timothy Reid and Inspector Michael Novar Caesar are attending an ‘Anti-Corruption Policy Forum and Academic Criminal Justice Seminar in New Mexico, USA.

“The forum will focus on international standards and the relevant legislative and administrative processes related to corruption as defined in the United Nations Convention against Corruption.” The press release said. The session started on July 15 and will be held until August 9.

Cadet Officer Ronjay Prince and Corporal Julio Jonas of the CID Police Headquarters, Eve Leary participated in a ‘Training for use of Identification Software’ session aimed at teaching the Guyana Police Force how to use technical aspects of the software Horus to enhance the capacity of investigations through improved identification of criminals and suspects. The session was held in Brazil from June 30 to July 6.

In addition, Detective Corporal 19043 Chateanand Jysingh attended the ‘Techniques of Financial Investigation Course’ from June 17 to July 5 in Jamaica. The objective of the course was to boost the skills and techniques of managers, supervisors and investigators in examining financial crimes and money laundering.

Senior Superintendent Paul Williams, Force Training Officer, attended the two-day ‘Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) Technical Working Group on Anti-Corruption in Kingston, Jamaica from June 20- 21. Participants were invited to share best practices with the aim of identifying specific areas where CBSI may be of assistance.
