A landlord was yesterday placed on bail after she denied charges that she disconnected her tenants’ water supply and hurled abuses at them.
The charges read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court stated that on June 1, Suzette Nurse, 52, of Lot 721 ‘C’ Field, Sophia, allegedly disconnected the water supply from a property located at Lot 207 East Ruimveldt without due consent. It was also alleged that on July 17, Nurse allegedly used abusive language towards Tricia McIntyre and Garfield Cox, causing a breach of the peace.
According to attorney George Thomas, Nurse rented the property to McIntyre and Cox.
He said the water supply was not discontinued by Nurse but rather by the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) since the water bill was not paid by the tenants.
Thomas further added that Nurse, who is the owner of the property, was not responsible for the payment of water bills, since that was the tenants’ responsibility.
He added that Nurse had no previous convictions and asked that reasonable bail be granted.
Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru had no objections to bail, which was set at $5000 for each of the two charges.
Magistrate Ann McLennan set the matter for continuation on July 25 at Court 6.
