Dear Editor,
This nonsense must be stopped. I am talking about the bushy house lot next to my house at Blairmont. Nobody wants to weed it. So the bushes are getting bigger and bigger. And the annoyance and discomfort increases.
I am referring to Lot 69, #3 Settlement, Blairmont, West Bank, Berbice. This land is owned by someone [name given] who lives overseas. His relatives live at #3 Settlement, Blairmont and refuses to contact him and refuses also to weed the land. The problem gets worse when the Blairmont NDC refuses to clear the land saying that money was not budgeted to do such work which costs only $3,000.
Another big let down is a man who works at the Fort Wellington RDC in West
Berbice. He is a very close relative of the owner of the land. He lost a great opportunity to shine as he refuses to intervene.
Sir, this bushy house lot is an environmental issue and it affects the neighbouring residents. This matter needs to be addressed urgently. Where are the environmentalists ‒ people concerned with the protection of the natural environment? I call on the Local Government Ministry to budget money to assist in such small and rare cases thus putting more power in the hands of the NDC and sanitary inspectors.
Yours faithfully,
Rev Cecil Kishun
