The Georgetown leg of the “Premium Cues Showdown” Pools tournament slated for tomorrow at Buddy’s Pool Hall on Sheriff Street, is set to feature at least 40 pools players aiming to reach the grand finals scheduled for July 28 at Stabroek Sports Bar, above Idiho Restaurant on Brickdam.
Following three weeks of warm up tournaments, competition is expected to intensify as Georgetown players will now get the opportunity to showcase their talent.
The countrywide tournament is sponsored by Banks DIH Limited under the Premium Beer brand. Brand Manager, Jeoff Clement said that because of the number of entries, the competition will start at 11:00 hours sharp and he encouraged players to be at the venue on time.
The winner will take the top purse of $60,000 and a trophy with the runner-up secures $40,000 and third place pockets $20,000.
Similar tournaments have been held on the East Coast of Demerara, Essequibo, Berbice, West Demerara, East Bank Demerara and the winners of the respective zones will compete in the grand finals.
The Georgetown players will have a final warm up tournament today at Butcher’s Bar, Middleton Street starting at 16:00 hours.
Warm up tournaments were held earlier this month at Buttsy’s Pool Bar at Shell Road, Kitty, Son’s Pool Bar at Sandy Babb Street, BL Beer Garden at Public Road La Penitence and Seepaul’s Sports Bar at Alexander Street, Kitty.
