West Indies player June Ogle was named Captain of a 15-woman Demerara team yesterday, ahead of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Senior Female Inter-county tournament commencing tomorrow.
According to a release sent out by the GCB, the three counties: Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice will face each other in 50 overs-a-side clashes beginning tomorrow and concluding on July 26, at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road.
Orin Bailey was appointed as team manager, while Mayleen Ramdular was designated as the females’ coach. Ogle’s deputy is Akeze Thompson.
The 26-year old made her ODI debut for the West Indies Women team on January 13th, 2011 against India, and featured in the Women’s World Cup in Sri Lanka. She is known for her batting at the top of the order where she occupies the opening slot, along with her talents behind the stumps. In the first match on Wednesday, Demerara will go up against Essequibo, while on Thursday, July 25, Berbice will face Essequibo in match number two and wrapping up proceedings will be the final clash between Demerara and Berbice on Friday, July 26.
