A woman was placed on $20,000 bail yesterday after denying damaging her partner’s mattress.
The charge stated that on July 19, at 212 Charlotte Street, Eileen Khanai unlawfully damaged a $45,000 mattress belonging to Ramesh Singh.
Khanai pleaded not guilty to the charge when she appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt said Singh found Khanai at home and she told him she had nothing to cook, got angry and took a broken bottle and cut the mattress.
Bail was initially set at $30,000 but was reduced after Khanai pleaded with the magistrate. “Your honour, I beg you for leniency. I did not do it. I got nobody to help me and no one came to see the mattress. Ow God! Ah begging yuh,” she said.
The case will continue on July 31 at Court 1.
