According to a press release from the GTTA, its selection committee met recently and selected seven male and seven female players to prepare with a view towards possible selection on the Guyana team for the 55th Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships scheduled for August 26 to September 1 at the Beausejour Indoor Facility, Gros Islet St Lucia
The championships will be used as one of the qualifiers for the Central American and Caribbean games scheduled for November 2014
David reached the semi-finals of last year’s Caribbean championships and was a member of the Guyana team which participated at this year’s World Singles championships in France.
Christopher Franklin, who missed last year’s Caribbean Championships but attended this year’s Worlds TT championships, has also been named in the men’s squad along with national champion Nigel Bryan.
David is Guyana’s highest rated player on the world table tennis rankings.
The men’s Squad: David, Franklin, Bryan, Edinho Lewis, Joel Alleyne, Shemar Britton and
Brad Belle. Idi Lewis will serve as player/coach.
The women’s squad is Lowe, Chelsea Edghill, Natalie Cummings, Jody Ann Blake,
Michelle John and Akecia Nedd
The veteran players named are Colin France, the 2012 silver medalist and Michael Vieira.
Last year the Guyana female team won a silver medal in the women’s team event in the Dominican Republic narrowly missing gold with a 3-2 defeat to eventual champions.
The team may be without Edghill last year 21 years and under girls’ bronze medalist who will be unavailable for the engagement given her commitment to participate in the Canadian Open Junior Championships in September.
