The University of Guyana’s (UG) Library was yesterday presented with a cheque by Courts (Guyana) Ltd towards its ninth ‘Reading is Fun’ programme.
The programme, a collaboration of Courts and UG Library targets children of less fortunate
circumstances to improve their reading and educational foundation.
Courts’ contribution, a cheque for $570,000, was presented to Acting Vice Chancellor of UG Phillip DaSilva and UG Librarian Gwyneth George at Courts Main Street store yesterday. The money will go towards books, meals and stationery for the programme, which will be held over the period July 30 to August 16.
DaSilva said the programme will be held under the theme ‘Learn to Read so you can Read to the World Around you’. He added that it aims to foster the love of reading. He said activities will include storytelling and the teaching of phonics.
Courts Country Manager Clyde de Haas said the programme will aid in the development of Guyana.
