Ol Skool created the first upset of the annual Noble House Goals Galore Indoor Hockey Championships as they defeated local heavyweights Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) 14-2 in their Men’s ‘A’ division matchup when action continued on Tuesday at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Based on their past performances, teams are given goal handicaps at the beginning of the tournament. For this tournament Ol Skool was given a (+6) handicap while GCC set with (+1) handicap.
Alan Fernandes led the veteran side comprising mostly of former national competitors with a helmet trick while his namesake Philip Fernandes recorded a double. Further goals by Stephan Fernandes and Ivor `Nancy’ Thompson completed the lopsided encounter.
On target for the Bourda side in the 10th minute was Orland Semple.
Hikers U19 (+3) continued their dominant displays as a Jamarj Assanah double piloted them to a gritty 5-4 victory over Hikers Generals (+0) in their Men ‘A’ division fixture. Robert France and Shane Samuels registered goals for the losing side.
Old Fort (+3) recorded their first Men’s ‘A’ division victory as they edged Hikers U23 (+5) 9-7. Doubles by the Simon brothers Ascofu and Aderemi and solitary strikes by John Abrams and Jason DeSantos ensured Old Fort walked away with the win.
Travon Younge managed to tally 2 goals for the Hikers side.
In the lone Ladies Divisional fixture, Revelation (+8) managed to chalk up their first competition win against the Hikers Divas (+2) by 10 – 4 margin. Charlyn Elliott and Romichelle Brummell scored one each for Revelation. Maria Munroe and Cora Towler were on target in a losing effort.
GCC (+0) powered by a Kareem McKenzie helmet trick and a Mark Sergeant double overcame Hikers Recruits (+4) 7-4 in their Men’s ‘B’ matchup. Keon McKenzie netted a solitary strike in the win.
On Monday at the same venue, Hikers Generals (+0) overwhelmed Old Fort (+3) by a 9-5 margin in their Men’s ‘A’ division matchup. Shane Samuels was the principal scorer for the winning side as he netted a helmet trick while Captain Robert France contributed a hat trick. Solitary strikes from Devin Munroe and Colonel Heywood completed the victory. On target for Old Fort were Dwayne Allen and Jason DeSantos.
Hikers U-19 (+3) defeated GCC (+1) by a 7-5 score line in their Men’s ‘A’ division fixture. Jamarj Assanah led Hikers U-19 with a double while Leon Bacchus and Hilton Chester netted one goal apiece.
Kevin Spencer and Andrew Xavier were on target for the Bourda side with a hat trick and single strike respectively. Continuing in the Men’s ‘A’ division, Ol Skool (+6) defeated Hikers U-23 (+5) 8-5. Damon Woodroffe and Alan Fernandes were on target for the winners.
In the lone Ladies divisional matchup, GCC Tigers (+0) overcame a two goal handicap to defeat GCC Spartans (+2) 4-2. Gabriella Xavier, Captain Sonia Jardine, Carol Caines and Ulrica Sutherland each found the back of the net for the Tigers.
In the Men’s ‘B’ division, Old Fort (+1) led by a Shaquille Thomas double defeated Saints Hockey Club (+2) 6-3. Thomas was ably assisted by Omar Hopkinson, Richard Heyliger and Stephen Spostra who each scored one goal. Kwesi Lewis found the back of the net for Saints.
