KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- The Windward Islands have moved into second place in the race for championship honours in the regional under 15 tournament after defeating host Jamaica by 96 runs on the second and final day of their fourth round match at St.Elizabeth Tuesday.
Windwards put in a commanding performance with the bat in the second innings as Patient knocks from Nick Elibox (44) and Denzil James (41) stretched their lead.
They were all out for 175 giving setting Jamaica a victory target of 209.
Kirk McKenzie and Richard McIntosh gave Jamaica a solid start by putting on 47 runs before a batting slide saw them tumbling from 47 for one to 72 for five.
There was some resistance in the middle of the innings from Dominik Samuels, who played well for his 17 while Captain Brad Barnes could only manage 14.
But the Jamaicans eventually crashed from 94 for six to be all out for 114.
Johnell Eugene did most of the damage for the Windwards with 4-28.
Windwards have now replaced Barbados in second position on the points table.
At Treasure Beach, Barbados completed the destruction of the Leeward Islands by an innings and 71 runs after putting themselves in a strong position.
The Leewards started Day 2 on 37 for 7 in their second innings, still trailing Barbados’ first innings score of 209 for 7 by 98 runs, having crashed to 74 all out in the first innings.
Barbados needing just three wickets to complete victory, Reniel Smith (5-14) and Joshua Bishop (4-22) wrapped the match in the first hour.
The Leewards were all out for 64 with Dimitri Adams top-scoring with 25.
At Steths, Trinidad and Tobago, inspired by Emilo Gopaul, staged a stunning come back to defeat Guyana by three wickets.
Gopaul grabbed six wickets for 50 runs as Guyana were bowled out for 151 leaving T&T needing 164 runs for victory.
Patient knocks from Keagan Simmons (22) and Saiba Batoosingh (22) provided the stability the innings needed on the chase.
However, it was Captain Kirstan Kallicharan’s 63 from 90 balls that ensured the victory, hitting six fours and a six in his knock.
The victory means T&T have extended their lead at the top by over three points.
